As a childhood resident of Katonah, we all remember the McGowen family. Ann's sister, Alice was my…Read More age and we hung out at the town pool. The McGowen's are a well respected family and my heart is broken at their loss as is my family and the Siegfrieds. Words can't express the love and prayers we all send your way

Wilton, and the world, has lost a true legend. Dave literally changed the way the world listened to…Read More jazz. I remember Dave most as a very gentle, quiet man in everyday life, but sit him down in front of a piano and stand back. He'd attack the keys, the passion expressed in his face. RIP Dave, Take Five.

I first learned of dave and his guys while in music school. my first jazz album was his carnegie…Read More hall concert recording. what a beginning! I knew he got his lobve for block chords from his mentor Darius Milhaud( one of his sons was named after the famous "les Six" composer). A friend of mine from conservatory had taken master classes with joe morello as well.
I had reasd of his refusal to play gigs in the 50s and 60 south where his bassist Gene Wright (the Senator) was not welcome. My deepest condolences to his family and yet the joy they must feel from the remembrance of having such a loving , inspirational and talented father, and grandfather,
sincerely with all my heart,
Gerry Albin, Defiance College class of 1969 and life long jazz enthusiast.

Today I went to vote at Cider Mill at 4:00pm. I had 5 kids in the car with me. As we were pulling…Read More in, a car in front of us stopped, a young boy got out, and grabbed the sign of one of the presidential nominees out of the ground, threw it into the car and off the car went. Two of the boys in my car said that’s “name” (a fellow eighth grade boy they go to school with in Wilton). I was watching in disbelief, not sure at first what was happening, once I realized, I was shocked (pretty brazen act to perform in front of polling place in the middle of the afternoon with so many people around). More shocking than a 13/14 year old boy pulling a political sign out of the ground (kids do foolish things) was the fact that he was being driven around by an adult, I would guess either his grandmother or babysitter. At first we thought to follow them, this was a felony after all, then I realized that would be setting a bad example for a car full of kids so we just discussed. Mainly we discussed how people can disagree with each other politically, and have respectful, thoughtful conversations. And how people who pull sign out of the ground are generally people you cannot have a thoughtful conversation with (kids want action and wanted to know what I planned to do about the offenders). I am hoping that this grandmother/babysitter sees this and maybe realizes the lesson they are teaching is not the right one about the political process, and life in general.

Dave Hoover introduced me to Ed in 1982. We visited Ed and SuAnne at their dome home which Dave…Read More helped Ed build, and we attended some of the Jazz concerts that Ed organized. I enjoyed receiving Ed's and SuAnne's Christmas letters because they opened up a view of the world beyond my own. I will always remember Ed's smile and friendly manner. God bless Ed Ramsey.
With deepest sympathy,

What exactly was Trayvon doing that caused a self-appointed crime block watcher follow him? Had he…Read More thrown a rock and broken a window? Did he steal a pocketbook from a passerby? Why didn't that self-appointed crime block watcher heed the 911 operator's instructions to back off and allow the police to investigate whatever was happening. The answers to those questions, I'm sorry to say, convey what is at the heart of this matter - racism. I don't know if Zimmerman shot Trayvon in self-defense. I doubt anyone will ever know the whole truth as one participant is dead. What I do know is that racism or racial profiling brought this tragedy to the Martin family.
