The Wilton Police issue a warning to citizens about being too liberal with their personal information around census time.
POLICE & FIRE|2 days ago
Beginning in March the U.S. Census Bureau will send out a short questionnaire to every household in the U.S. and Puerto Rico in an effort to collect important demographic data. As a citizen, you are required by law to respond to the 10 short questions. From April to July, those that haven't completed their census will receive a visit at their home address from a census taker. Identity criminals may take advantage of the census law and target unsuspecting victims in an attempt to steal sensitive information. The scams perpetrated may range from fraudulent emails designed to obtain sensitive information to attempts to impersonate census collectors. Most citizens don't think twice about sharing personal information with a census …

Wilton avoids the worst of the weekend's storm, but still faces a serious clean up and sets its sights on helping neighboring towns.
Though Governor Rell has declared a state of emergency for Connecticut, it appears Wilton escaped the worst of the weekend's storm. At their highest total, power outages affected 14 percent of CL&P customers in town (around 1,000 residents) and while that may seem high, it amounts to not even half of the 50 and 60 percent of customers in towns like New Canaan, Darien and Westport who suffered the same fate and many of whom remain without power. As of 1 a.m. Monday night, only around 450 (six percent) were without electricity in Wilton. "Saturday's storm was among the most destructive to ever hit Fairfield County and the damage is simply astounding," Governor Rell said of the weekend's events in a news release. According to First Selectman…

800+ Wiltonians may be without power until Wednesday, while a host of road closures litter the area.
Following Mother Nature's bluster this weekend, around 812 Wiltonians (about 11 percent of CL&P customers in the area) remain without power as of 4 p.m. Monday afternoon. "We're expecting now that power will be restored within 24 to 36 hours," said CL&P spokesman Al Lara around 12:15 p.m. on Monday. "For Wilton, it's probably more toward the 36-hour mark. But all areas should be restored by Wednesday night, except for some outages in the really inaccessible areas." The Wilton Police Department said they have a large number of road closure and impeded roadway reports and are in the process of compiling an up-to-date list. Dispatch said this will take some time as they still have reports coming in, but the most recent results are as follows …

If Dinosio violates the probation terms, he is to serve out the remainder of the sentence. His bond was also raised from $50,000 to $100,000, …

Eager citizens gather at the police station to begin 12-weeks of work, learning what their locals officers do.
Imagine getting to try your hand at the rigors and excitement of police work without the inherent dangers. That's what the Wilton Citizen Police Academy aims to let residents do. The academy is an annual 12-week program designed to teach any interested citizen about what the town's force does. The latest installment began last night and will continue on Tuesday evenings from 7 p.m. until 9:30 pm until May 25.About a dozen interested citizens signed up for the course and stood chatting amicably in the lobby of the police department at a few minutes before 7 p.m. on Tuesday night.
