Several Wilton schools show off their waste management skills at the Go Green Festival.
Teachers from several Wilton schools love to talk trash– be it paper, plastic, cans or crayons. From Middlebrook School to the Children's Day School, Wilton schools showed their environmental acumen during Sunday's Go Green Festival. Booth after booth showed how students and parents alike could cut waste. At Children's Day School students gathered broken and worn down crayons. They melted them and molded them to look like globes. Residents turn out in force for the first Go Green Festival.
Kermit the Frog was wrong: it is easy being green, as long as people do it one step at a time. Wilton held its first Go Green Festival on Sunday. The town-wide energy fair featured more than 60 exhibits, lectures and family activities from talks at the Wilton Library to fishing and wading in the Norwalk River. "We wanted to help educate the community about energy," said Dona Pratt, chair of the Wilton Energy Commission. "It grew from one of those 'Gee wouldn't it be nice to have a fair' to this. It's just a phenomenal day." The energy commission wanted to expand the Earth Day observance into an event that reflected its mission: to advise Wilton on ways to reduce energy usage while promoting the use of alternative and sustainable forms of …

Recognizing the town's proactive approach to tree management in 2009, the Arbor Day Foundation has designated Wilton as a Tree City USA 2009, one of only 17 Connecticut municipalities to be so honored. To find out about this honor and kick off Wilton's first-ever Go Green Festival, Wilton residents are invited to attend "Celebrate Wilton: Tree City USA," on Sunday, May 2, at 11:00 a.m., immediately following the festival's opening ribbon-cutting. The celebration will be held in the Brubeck Room at the Wilton Library. This celebration, which ties into the festival's themes of energy conservation and sustainable living, features a short talk by Patricia Sesto, the town's Director of Environmental Affairs, entitled "My Trees are Worth …

The Wilton Go Green Festival announces Alex S. MacLean, noted aerial photographer and author, will be the keynote speaker at the May 2 event.
Alex MacLean, pilot and photographer, has flown his plane over much of the United States documenting the landscape. Trained as an architect, he has portrayed the history and evolution of the land from vast agricultural patterns to city grids, recording changes brought about by human intervention and natural processes. His powerful and descriptive images provide clues to understanding the relationship between the natural and constructed environments, including the causes and effects of climate change. MacLean's photographs have been exhibited widely in the United States, Canada, Europe and Asia and are found in private, public and university collections. He has won numerous awards, including the 2009 CORINE International Book Award, the …
