Bio

I'm somewhat peripatetic by nature.  I was born and raised in Milan, Italy and spent time living there and in Berlin, Germany before moving back to the U.S. around age 10.  I lived in Waterford, CT for several years before attending college in Vermont, sowing wild oats in Vail, CO and doing a two year stint in San Francisco.  As much as I love to travel, though, I always land back in the Northeast and consider it my home.

I just completed a Master's Degree in Journalism and have written and worked for a variety of publications including the San Francisco Chronicle, the Point Reyes Light and National Geographic Adventure Magazine.  Patch particularly excites me because it caters to my itinerant urges by keeping me constantly on the move and puts them to good use serving a great community like Wilton.

When spare time arises, I fill it with vintage guitars, skiing, golf, circumnavigation, post-modern literature (my collegiate major) and have ambitions of getting into spelunking.  I find caves fascinating.

I also have a propensity for going for runs at odd hours so if you see someone jogging in a neon vest at 11 p.m. along Route 7, wave to me.

Beliefs

At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principlesc  of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible and human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal certain key beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.

This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject these beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will force us to be ever mindful to write, report, and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever think you see evidence that we failed in this mission, we wholeheartedly invite you to let us know.

Politics

I'm constantly in flux.  I was raised in a Conservative household but don't necessarily adhere staunchly to that set of values.  If pressed, I'd categorize myself as a fiscal conservative and a social liberal. What does that mean?  How should I know, I was pressed.

Religion

I'd prefer to say I'm spiritual as opposed to religious.  The latter, for better or worse, has come to have some sort of cultish connotation for me.  I do my best to go to a Roman Catholic Mass most Sundays (it's the church I was raised in and so I know all the good tunes), but I pull from the tenets of everything from Buddhism to Mysticism.

Local Hot Button Issues

  • What do you think are the most important issues facing the community?  Where do you stand on them?

This year's elections are certainly important and I'd love, like any good Wiltonian, to be sure the officials in place are ones who will serve the needs of the community the best, whether that means reelecting someone or bringing in a new candidate.

Clearly, a solid and thriving stable of local businesses is important and hopefully nearing the completion of much of the town's road construction will aid that. It is nice to see, too, that even a struggling national economy has not largely cut into this town's strong organizations.

It will be most interesting, too, to see where the townspeople fall on the issue of "dampening" Wilton, as legalizing alcohol sales has not been on a ballot here since 1992.  I have not lived here long enough to speak authoritatively on the matter and can't wait to see what the vote yields.
