Connecticut Friends School
Connecticut Friends School combines outstanding academics, arts and outdoor leadership programs with Friends values of simplicity, peaceful problem-solving, and mutual respect. At CFS, master teachers lead small, multi-age class groups though a rigorous and engaging program. We use a variety of techniques including thematic study and experiential learning, as well as traditional classroom methods, while following national standards in core curriculum areas. Creative expression is encouraged through the performing and visual arts including drama, music, African drumming, storytelling, painting and sculpture, and physical activities such as dance and movement. Opportunities for learning outside the classroom are critical to a child's experience at CFS. Field trips, essential for building community, enhancing curriculum, and fostering a sense of wonder about the world, are a regular part of our program. Service learning is also important and introduces students to the possibility of changing the world through organized action. CFS is the only Friends (Quaker) elementary/middle school in Connecticut.
