Set in August, 1936 in County Donegal, Dancing at Lughnasa
is a memory play narrated by Michael Evans, who recounts the events as seen by
his seven year old self.  The cast
includes 5 women and 3 men.  The 5 women
are the Mundy sisters:

                Kate, the oldest, a devout
Catholic and schoolteacher

                Maggie, the homemaker, an
optimist who dreams of a better life

                Chris, the youngest, and mother
of Michael

                Rose, whose slight mental
disability makes her seem younger than her age

                Agnes, the quietest sister, who
prefers knitting with Rose

Father Jack, a former missionary returned from Uganda; Gerry
Evans, a travelling gramophone salesman; and Michael, the illegitimate son of
Chris and Gerry and the play’s narrator, round out the cast.
