Business—and Camaraderie—Boom for Wilton Business

The 'Signature Style' monogram store has proven to be a success for two Wilton women, both as a viable business and creating lasting community connections.

Ann Nash and Mary Logan never expected their monogram shop to take off as quickly as it has, so needing to move the business into a much larger storefront within their first year has been exciting for the duo.

“There’s so much more we’re going to be able to do,” says Logan about Tuesday’s opening of their new space at 134 Old Ridgefield Rd., across from .

“We’re able to display all of our merchandise, whereas before it just looked like sort of a bomb blew up in that store. This is going to be nicer for presentation, and people are going to be more comfortable shopping here.”

Adds Nash, laughing: “We won’t bump into each other! Literally, in the old place we were bumping into each other constantly, all day long, we were saying, ‘Sorry! Sorry!  Oh, excuse me, can I get back there?’”

Both women laugh together at the thought. In fact they do a lot of laughing together, and they know that’s part of the reason behind their success.

“We met eight years ago, because we have kids almost the same age, in school together,” recounts Nash, who, like Logan, is a Wilton resident.

“But we really learned to work together because we’ve co-chaired something together since the kids started ninth grade, three years ago. We learned we complement each other well. When I was going through research to start the store, that’s why I went to Mary, because we work together so well," she says.

It’s a camaraderie that spills over to the customers who shop with them as well.

“It’s really become this whole little party and community—we love it!” says Nash.

“We’re getting to meet people we never would have met. We now have all these young moms we love, and all these older women who have kids long gone and now they’re having grandkids. They come in and we love to help them find what they need," she says.

There’s much to find on the store shelves, with 1,134 unique apparel, accessory and home décor items from which customers can select to personalize with embossing, printing or embroidery. The expansion from 212 square feet to 1,200 will bring them much needed room for growing their opportunities to do new things.

“We bought a leather embosser and so we’re going to have a whole leather line now,” says Nash.

“You couldn’t even see our great pillows in our old store, now we’ll have a couch and we’ll be able to display things. We’ll have space to be able to sit down here and design anything with a customer. If somebody has a wedding or a bar mitzvah, we have a private space in the back to sit down with them and go through things and help them find whatever they need," she says.

Along with their brick-and-mortar store and existing internet business, Nash and Logan also plan to do events, like ladies’ shopping nights and trunk shows with vendors. “And we’re going to have a little kid play area for kids to play while their moms can sit and design and talk about what they want to make,” says Nash.

“Of course we’re going to run out of space again!” she jokes, and then laughs, with Logan.

Signature Style is now open at its new home, at 134 Old Ridgefield Road. The owners will hold a ribbon cutting to officially celebrate their new space on May 17 at 11:30 a.m.
