Candlelight Concert Returns to Clune Tonight

An annual holiday staple in town, the WHS Candlelight Concert begins at 7:30 pm on Wednesday.

Sounds of the season will fill the air as Wilton High School chorus and orchestra students perform a Candlelight Concert, to be held on Wednesday, December 15th, at 7:30 p.m. in the Clune Center.

The high school's four choral groups will perform a blend of holiday music from around the world, from a richly complex medieval carol sung by the Madrigal Singers to an up-beat holiday spectacular covering all holidays performed by the men's chorus, the Bottom Line.  The full Concert Choir will perform Schubert's Mass in G accompanied by Select Orchestra.

The instrumental portion of the program will feature solo performances by freshman Alissa Chan, playing "Spring" from Vivaldi's Four Seasons with the Concert Orchestra, and by senior Jedrik Chao, playing Bartok's Viola Concerto with the Symphonic Orchestra. "The Bartok is especially unusual for a high school student to be performing," says Marty Meade, the high school's orchestra director, "and unusual for a high school orchestra to play."  Chao is the Principal Viola in the Norwalk Youth Symphony.

As in previous years, singers in the audience will be invited to join the students on stage for Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus."  The evening's program will conclude with a hushed candlelit recessional.

The Candlelight Concert is free, and the public is warmly invited to attend.  Donations to the Music Program are appreciated.
