Flowering Community Spirit

First Selectman Bill Brennan extends his thanks to the five organization that made the flower baskets in Wilton Center possible.

For the last three years, Wilton Center has been enhanced by colorful flower baskets that add to the charm of our village shopping area.  An attractive town attracts shoppers and diners for our restaurants plus customers and clients for our banks and professional offices!  The flowers have added to the joy of visiting the village center and to our collective community pride.

This year the flower baskets have been made possible by the generosity of five organizations – The Wilton Bank (Nicki Brown), MCL Ventures (Chris Lavin), Wilson Commercial Real Estate (Lee Wilson), Realty Seven (Peg Koellmer) and Vintage Fine Wines (Frank Lugossy).

On behalf of all the citizens of Wilton, thank you again for your financial support and for being such great citizens.

This year, with the help of the Wilton Garden Club, red and pink "Dragon Wing" begonias were selected for the flower baskets, as they are supposedly very hardy and drought resistant.  In the last few weeks, they have been "tested" and so far have held up very well!

Our goal next year will be to have 10 Wilton organizations share the costs for the flowers that help to make Wilton a pleasant shopping environment.  Town employees hang the baskets, fertilize the flowers and water them every day.   Daily maintenance is critical and our employees take pride in caring for the flowers.

The town is also continuing to make improvements to the village – additional trees have been planted and soon new teak park benches will be placed around the village to allow pedestrians a place to rest and relax.  And in November, we will dedicate a prominent flagpole and memorial monuments to Wilton veterans who gave their lives for the values we all cherish.

All of these improvements are due to the generosity of our citizens and are a reflection of the great community spirit that exists in Wilton.

Once again, Nicki, Lee, Peg, Chris and Frank, thank you for the flower baskets this year.  Wilton is most grateful!
