Middlebrook Students Raise $3k+ for Save the Children’s Haiti Relief Efforts

The funds were raised through a school coin drive and a chess tournament.

Students of Middlebrook School in Wilton raised $3,250 through a "Change for Children" coin drive and a chess tournament for Save the Children's Haiti relief and recovery efforts.   Middlebrook Student Council representatives presented a check to Wilton resident Carmen Weder of Save the Children at a special ceremony at the school on March 4.

"It is wonderful to see children reaching out to other children in need," said Carolyn Miles, COO and executive vice president of Save the Children. "We really appreciate the local support of all the children in Save the Children's own backyard who have come up with so many creative ways to raise funds to help Haiti's children."

"I am proud of the heartfelt concern that our students have shown for the children of Haiti through this "Change for Children" fundraiser," said Julia C. Harris, principal of Middlebrook School.

Middlebrook Student Council members led the drive to raise Haiti funds, organizing a two-week long "Change for Children" coin drive.  Students were encouraged to leave donations in the cafeteria during lunch.

In addition, a competitive chess simul to raise funds took place between students and staff members.  Sixth grader Kapil Chandran won 33 straight games.  His winnings contributed largely to the total funds raised by the school.
